You Can Knock — theme artwork

A concept note from Leona

I write this one from behind the closed door: the late office light, the cold coffee, the softness I keep beneath composure. You Can Knock is an invitation, offered quietly. My debut lives low in a velvet contralto, with a slow nocturnal groove and room to breathe.

Draft lyrics

[Verse 1] The city dims, my floor stays lit Cold coffee in a paper cup My name's in brass upon the door But brass won't warm nobody up [Chorus] Velvet armor — go ahead, touch Silk on top, but steel beneath I don't let many people in But you can knock — and I might feel [Verse 2] Three missed calls from mama's phone I'll call her back when I get home The higher up, the less they know Softest heart puts on the hardest show [Chorus] Velvet armor — go ahead, touch Silk on top, but steel beneath I don't let many people in But you can knock — and I might feel [Bridge] Lay it down — the weight, the name Underneath, I'm not the same That little girl in quiet rooms Still hums the songs her mama knew [Final Chorus] Velvet armor — go ahead, touch Silk on top, but steel beneath I kept it locked, I hid the key Velvet armor — you can knock
