I go where the light gets strange. I collect places through a lens, then listen for what the photograph leaves out. Sometimes the story begins after the shutter closes.
Four things this house will tell you. The rest happened off camera.
The story
A traveler and photographer who goes where the light gets strange — and whose famous luck is built, invisibly, out of night shifts, training, and work nobody sees.
The soul
Warm, sincere, all-in. She never tells what things cost her; the effort only ever shows by accident — a taped hand, a 3 a.m. timestamp.
The purpose
To tell the stories places leave behind — the part the photograph can't hold.
The longing
To be seen completely — the luck and the work underneath it — by the one who walks beside her, flashlight in hand.
Six themes, six sets: four frames for the reels, one for the screen — earned outdoors, in real weather, the same five everywhere.

Trailhead
Theme — Trailhead
Trailhead — the widescreen frame (MV cover).
Trailhead — reel frame 1 of 4.Trailhead — reel frame 2 of 4.Trailhead — reel frame 3 of 4.Trailhead — reel frame 4 of 4.
Every crossing starts somewhere ordinary: a wooden signpost, a valley still holding its breath, a pack that weighs exactly as much as the decision to carry it. Trailhead is where Rily stops being a person who reads about roads and becomes the person on one.
Why these framesFive frames at the start of the trail: the wide dawn valley behind the signpost, the pack hauled up the first real slope, a boot lace tied like a promise, and one deep breath before the path takes her. This is the before picture of every story she tells.

Open Water

Water is not a place Rily visits; it is the first home she ever trusted. Long swims before the lake wakes up, a kayak pulled down to a quiet shore — out here there is no audience and nothing to explain, only distance, breath, and whatever the water is keeping for her.
Why these framesThe set stays at the waterline: open water wide behind her, shoulders still wet from the swim, the kayak work done with her own hands. The close frames keep the two truths of the theme side by side — the stubborn grin that starts the swim, and the quiet that follows it.

Vertical
Theme — Vertical
Vertical — the widescreen frame (MV cover).
Vertical — reel frame 1 of 4.Vertical — reel frame 2 of 4.Vertical — reel frame 3 of 4.Vertical — reel frame 4 of 4.
On a rock face there is no negotiating and no pretending: the hold is there or it is not, and your hands find out before your pride does. Vertical is Rily's most honest sport — height measured in trust, one grip at a time.
Why these framesShot from below so the height is real, the set follows one climb: full body on the wall, weight on the rope, chalk still on her hands. The close frames stay where climbing actually happens — in the fingers, and in the look that reads the next three moves before taking one.

Endurance
Theme — Endurance
Endurance — the widescreen frame (MV cover).
Endurance — reel frame 1 of 4.Endurance — reel frame 2 of 4.Endurance — reel frame 3 of 4.Endurance — reel frame 4 of 4.
Rily has never been the fastest person on any trail, and it has never once mattered. Endurance is her kind of beautiful: still running at the hour when motivation has gone home, counting distance in breaths, finishing what the morning started.
Why these framesAn empty early trail, a distance marker, real sweat: the wide frames show the road she is covering, and the close frames show the price and the payoff in the same face — breathing hard and laughing anyway. Nothing here is posed; all of it is earned at kilometer whatever-it-takes.

Field Notes

Field Notes — reel frame 1 of 4.Field Notes — reel frame 2 of 4.Field Notes — reel frame 3 of 4.Field Notes — reel frame 4 of 4.
Before Rily tells a story she does the unglamorous part: kneeling in wet grass at dawn, waiting for the light to finish arriving, writing down what the lens cannot keep. Field Notes is her trade with its sleeves rolled up — camera, notebook, patience.
Why these framesThe set works the way she does: kneeling for the shot, notebook out before the moment cools, eye at the viewfinder, binoculars up for whatever moved at the tree line. Every frame has a tool in it because the theme is not looking — it is working at looking.

Summit Light

Summit Light — reel frame 1 of 4.Summit Light — reel frame 2 of 4.Summit Light — reel frame 3 of 4.Summit Light — reel frame 4 of 4.
There is a kind of quiet that only exists at the top of something you climbed yourself. Summit Light is not a celebration — Rily plants her pole, looks at the valley that Trailhead promised her, and lets the wind say the loud part. Some arrivals are silent because they are full.
Why these framesGolden hour and hard wind close the arc the gallery opened at dawn: the wide summit, the pack still on, and close frames that refuse to perform triumph. The last look back is the counterweight to Trailhead's first deep breath — same girl, same kit, a whole journey between the two.

The stories
Film grain. Long shadows. A story told close enough to hear the water.
Every place keeps one thing off camera. I don't chase it, and I don't stage it. If it ever shows itself, it will be on its own terms — and you will hear about it here first.
Journey
Notes in my own words.
01
At the edge of the map
I travel for the places that refuse to explain themselves. A photograph holds the light. A story holds what moved behind it.
02
Seven chapters. One island.
What the Water Keeps begins at Cuemanco and follows me into the canals of Xochimilco. I came for photographs. You can read what followed.
